The Maranatha Christian Athletic Department is excited to announce that 15-year NFL veteran Nick Novak has been named as the Head Varsity Football Coach.
Novak, the 6th leading scorer in San Diego Chargers history and a member of the Chargers’ All-Decade Team, most recently served as an assistant to recently retired Head Coach Rick Brown who led Maranatha to a 4-1 finish in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season.
He is looking forward to sharing the knowledge he has picked up over a career that allowed him to play for some of the game’s finest head coaches. Joe Gibbs and Ralph Frieden (Maryland) are some of his former coaches whose philosophies he will draw from.
Novak, who is well-known for his high character and reputation as a tirelessly hard worker, said “We want our players to master the mundane and be fundamentally solid, while preparing them for the next level of play”. He added that he is “excited to speak freely about his faith and expects his team to be gritty and tough”.
He also runs Novak Kicking and Consulting, where he instructs and trains some of the top NFL kickers and punters. He also conducts virtual free agent tryouts for NFL teams and trains amateur athletes.
