It was an impressive day for the Maranatha Christian Varsity Football team as they defeated Pacific League opponent Escondido Charter 34-19. It was the schools' first win on their new state of the art field.
When high school football players are used to playing at 7pm on cool Friday nights, a Saturday afternoon game in 90 degree heat is no easy feat. However, that didn't seem to effect Maranatha as they put up the best offensive performance of the year, with 424 total yards which is nearly double any other game they have played.
The strong offensive performance was led by Sophomore Isaac Stone and Junior Max Johnson. Stone led the team with 150 rushing yards averaging 6.8 yards per carry. Johnson also played his best game of the season having 108 total yards (81 rushing and 27 receiving).
With a strong finish, Maranatha has a chance for playoff berth and is looking to carry this momentum into their final three games. They will play host to Orange Glen on 10/18 which will also be their Homecoming game.
