When Rodaylin Mina decided to transfer to Maranatha from El Camino immediately following her freshmen golf season, it was clear the school was getting one of the county's top young golfers. What we did not know was how good she really is.
After a mandatory sit-out period due to the transfer, she finally got the opportunity to compete and instantly made an impact. She led the Maranatha with a 2.67 differential, which essentially means her 9-hole handicap. She became only the second MCS athlete to be named 1st-Team All-Coastal Conference which is one of the top golf conferences in the county.
Her scores easily qualified her for a CIF playoff berth, and after the first day of the two match competition, she fired a 2 over par 74 at Oceanside Golf Course which put her tied for 4th and 5 strokes off the leader. On day 2 at a tough Omni La Costa Resort course, she shot a 77 and ultimately finished in 10th place in a field of more thn 100 golfers.
Her performance made her one of the select few Maranatha athletes to be named to an All-CIF team - making 2nd team. It also qualified her for the State Regional Tournament where she will compete Tuesday, 6/15 at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena.
This tournament showcases the best competition from CIF Southern Section, CIF San Diego Section, LA Metro and Central Coast Sections. Congratulations Rodaylin - you clearly blongs as one of the best!
