For the first time in Maranatha history, we had two wrestlers representing MCS at the CIF Divisional Wrestling Championships. Two-time CIF wrestling champion, Noah Rupp and Junior, Zack Jones represented Maranatha last weekend at the CIF D4 wrestling championships at Army-Navy.
Zach Jones, junior and first year wrestler, put on a competitive showing but came up short of placing at CIF. Jones was very impressive with his newly acquired wrestling knowledge and is already planning his off-season training. Zack looked great and has so much natural combat-sport talent, with a focused off-season plan, he has a good chance of being on that CIF podium next year.
Noah Rupp went in as the number one seed and as such didn’t wrestle until the semi finals where he made quick work of his Mountain Empire opponent, pinning him in the 1st period. Rupp ran into a familiar foe in the finals in Jax Murren from Valley Center. It was an exciting match that Rupp ultimately won 9-3 and became a CIF champion for the second year in a row. Rupp also walked away with the Sportsmanship award that recognizes not only athletic performance, but also overall sportsmanship. Rupp advances to the San Diego section Masters tournament this weekend in El Centro as the number two seed. The top four placers at each weight class will advance to the California State Championships the following weekend.
